The story behind
The Dharma-Chakra or Wheel of Doctrine is perhaps the very first buddhist symbol. It represents the teachings of the Buddha, or more specifically "turning the wheel of doctrine". It was Buddha Shakyamuni himself, who suggested that instead of making statues of him, devotees might fashion the wheel of dharma out of different materials such as stone or wood in order to remember him and his message. The eight spokes of the dharmachakra represent the Eightfold Path.
